Link between changes in the brain and obesity Link between changes in the brain and obesity
A recent study has found link between changes in the brain to the obesity, there is a strong link in structural changes in brain of rats and human beings as per the new research. In the study conducted, mice were made to have high fat diet, that is bred to make them obese, and researchers thereafter found that this affected early and causing lasting injury to a specific part of Hypothalamus. Obesity appears to be strongly linked to structural changes in the brains of rats and humans, according to new research. Then researchers used the technique of brain imaging on the humans who were obese and they found that there were signs of similar kind of damage in brain’s same area of obese humans, as seen the mice. The study which was conducted by Dr. Michael W. Schwartz who is a professor  [...]

Eating too much your brain gets shrink Eating too much your brain gets shrink
Well a news- if you eat too much of the fast food, then one of your body part will shrink but the news is not good as you think its bad because that body part is brain. A new study has suggested, that people whose diet is high on trans fats that is the artery damaging fats are more likely to have the brain shrinkage which is associated with the Alzheimer’s disease. The study has also shown that people whose diet is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex and the Vitamin D, appears to have large brains then people who are low in these nutrients in their diet. The Omega 3 fatty acid are very beneficial, they seem to benefit small blood vessels of brain, and affects the thinking ability related to those vessels. One of the leading investigator Dr Gene Bowman has suggested this. People  [...]

Gene controls Memory formation Gene controls Memory formation
Research team that was led by Indian origin neuroscientist have found gene which is known to activate or rather turn on when any form of information is stored in brain, i.e. memories being stored. This discovery is believed can help in pinpointing exact location of the memory in brain. When we observe something like a new event, then our brain encodes memory by altering connections existing between the neurons. This need turns on many gene in the regarding neurons. In the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), neuroscientists have been able to identify a gene, which is known as the Npas4, that is active in brain’s hippocampus- that brain structure which is critical in forming of the long term memories. This research, which has been described in journal science, could be the  [...]

Brain functions to keep us focussed Brain functions to keep us focussed
A new research has brought to attention the mechanisms which facilitate the brain to focus, the discovery has been made regarded this function of brain as how brain successfully directs the pertinent information to those perceptual areas in the brain regions, suggested by the study. This study has been researched in the RIKEN Brains Science Institute (BSI) which has provided for valuable insights regarding brains function of focusing and how these focus can be disrupted and suggestions about the new ways of representing the information is such a manner which can augment the capacities of brain for focusing. Focusing of the attention by the brain is the natural ability which is because of the two distinct processes that is the Sensitivity enhancement and the efficient selection. Sensitivity  [...]

Antidepressants – Friends or Foes? Antidepressants – Friends or Foes?
A new study show that antidepressants can cause about 5 % elevation in the clogging of carotid artery, the blood vessel which is known to carry blood directly to the human brain. Carotid arteries have their location on either sides of the neck. The disease of carotid arteries is nothing but a condition wherein the narrowing of these arteries takes place and gradually they become blocked. The narrowing of them is called stenosis. It is observed that patients who take depression medications, are prone to facing such a condition of blockage of the blood vessels to and fro the brain. But, the concern regarded is little and doctors advise depression patients to continue their regular medical treatments. The risks of cardiovascular diseases are greatly reduced due to depression medications.  [...]

Depression Seeks Help With Deep Brain Stimulation Depression Seeks Help With Deep Brain Stimulation
Who had thought that a thin and wiry device could lead to the delivery of a steady electric pulse to the brain, in order to treat depression? A new research at the new research center of the Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix will introduce the world with the possibilities related to the above query. This newly planned research center is sponsored with a donation of $10.1-million from Marian H. Rochelle, a philanthropist. This new research follows the therapy, which is known as the Deep Brain Stimulation or DBS, and a small association with limited number neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, and designers and manufacturers of medical devices is involved in the study. Also, others who can visualize this research promising the treatment of depression and its most crippling forms are taking  [...]

Meditation – The Best Medication for Your Brain Meditation – The Best Medication for Your Brain
Meditation, in terms of brain health, is a synonym for medication. It has been observed since ages that meditation helps the growth and development of one’s brain in an effective manner. There is an authentic backdrop to my statement now – the findings of the recent researches about regular meditation brining about brain health boost. A study conduced recently at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, revealed that meditation done regularly aids immensely in boosting the brain health, with results popping out in just a bout a few months. Tracking 16 people, the research made them take a course on stress reduction based on mindfulness. The course included relaxation and stretching exercises and each of them were practiced for at least 30 minutes a day under expert guidance. After  [...]

Let the Brain Speak Let the Brain Speak
Scientists from the University of Utah have managed to do what could be the most important breakthrough when it comes to the health and life of people who have been paralyzed and now cannot speak. These scientists have managed to find a method of decoding the brain signals which are meant to deal with speech. Using this technology, they might be able to help out people who have for a while now, dealt with loss of speech, owing to paralysis or locked-in syndrome. How did they manage this feat? The researchers have been able to achieve a method that helps them to translate the signals from the brain into words that can be understood by the people around them. This was achieved with the help from around 16 microelectrodes which were implanted, and they were placed right underneath the skull  [...]

New Scan Could Pinpoint Presence of Autism New Scan Could Pinpoint Presence of Autism
There might be a new test available that could accurately tell people whether they suffer from autism or not. This test was seen to have about 90% accuracy; which researchers claim is quite a high percentage of accuracy. Who Invented It? This brain scan has been developed by the researchers at the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College, London. This scan is known to map the cerebral structure of the patients and takes up to around 15 minutes. This test is touting itself as being cost effective and is said to be quicker in giving results; and this is what might make it popular in the near future. Is it Good News? The test might be good news for children suffering from or having to be diagnosed with the autism spectrum disorder.  This disorder is said to be caused by abnormalities  [...]

Brain Surgery through Tiny Incision in Eyelid Brain Surgery through Tiny Incision in Eyelid
According to the latest news to hit town, surgeons at the John Hopkins University have figured out a way of operating inside the brains without having to open up the top of the skull, which is what they had to do earlier. These surgeons have ended up operating on the brain by creating a small incision on the eyelid (on the natural creases) and this helps them to reach the skull and the deeper parts of the brain. They said that the access to the skull and brain which was used earlier required the doctors to open the top half of the skull. This newer method is called transpalperbral orbitofrontal craniotomy. The Advantage This newer method is minimally invasive, in comparison to its predecessor. If you go through the eyelid, it would offer a simpler and more direct route which opens up right  [...]
